Letting Go of the Dream Clinging to Hope
“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.”
- Ephesians 3:20 (ESV)
For thirteen years, I thought I was living my dream job.
I had the privilege of serving alongside my dad, Bob Lenz, at Lifest, using my gifts to organize schedules, communicate plans, and connect with people. I loved the fast pace, the relationships, and even the unexpected challenges. Most days, I felt like I was exactly where God wanted me. Over time, my role shifted to focus more on Dignity Revolution. While I knew it was the right move, I struggled with giving up time with my dad. God was also stretching me as a leader. As an achiever, I often wanted everything to look successful and put together, even when life felt messy behind the scenes. Then came a decision I never expected. Through a series of events, I chose to leave what I believed would be my forever job. Walking away from years of relationships and a role I loved was difficult. I wondered what God could possibly have next. During my exit interview, I was offered the opportunity to purchase the Known Women’s Conference. I didn’t even know buying a conference was an option! Immediately, doubts filled my mind. Could I really do this? How would it work? I quickly realized I would need to rely on God and the people He placed around me. Four years later, I can see God’s faithfulness. What felt like a loss became an invitation into greater freedom. I have been able to work for my brother, spend more time serving at my daughters’ school, enjoy summer Fridays with my girls, and continue traveling. God also lifted burdens and stress that I didn’t realize I had been carrying. Most importantly, He has given me more time for family, relationships, and Him. Sometimes God asks us to release something good so we can receive something even better. We cling tightly to our plans because they feel safe and familiar, but God sees what we cannot. His plans are not meant to limit us; they are designed to bless us. What is God asking you to surrender today? What are you holding onto that may be keeping you from experiencing His best? Listen for His gentle whisper. Trust His leading. The God who sees the beginning and the end knows exactly where He is taking you.
Prayer
Papa God, thank You for Your faithfulness in every season. Help me trust You when You call me to let go of something familiar. Give me courage to follow Your leading, even when I cannot see the outcome. Open my eyes to the blessings You have prepared and remind me that Your plans are always greater than my own. Teach me to rest in Your goodness and walk confidently in the path You have for me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
